Willie John Kiely gave us the lead on 60-something minutes, but Athlone levelled a few minutes later.

So...I have completely lost patience with the team and Henderson. He's becoming a right fool lately. Although he picked the right team in my opinion, I can't blame it all on him. Again, we missed numerous chances and this has gone beyond a joke. When chances come, it's not the hardest thing in the world to put the ball in the net. But unfortunately, the team don't realise this and it seems to be mission impossible for them on the pitch. 11 points behind Derry with a game more played. 1 point ahead of Monaghan with a game more played, and they host Mervue United tomorrow night. Athlone Town FC are not a good team. We know it, and they know it. They play absolutely rubbish football and if we cannot beat a team like this what hope do we have? It's a disgrace if you ask me. Our defence is crap at the moment, Alan Carey and Long continue to yo-yo on their performances and I'm even beginning to question Murray at the heart of defence I hate to say. Some will disagree with me, but you saw yourselves the sloppy chances we gifted Longford last week. With a centre back pair of Murray and Long, both around 6 foot 4, and yet we conceded from a corner when our defence had the chance to clear from what I heard.

Is it time for Henderson? Maybe, maybe not. If we don't get promoted, which is looking to be slipping away from us rapidly, he has to go. He stated that the main reason we beat Longford was because our defence was back. When we drew with Athlone in the RSC we had midfielders in defence so why didn't we win tonight? He also said he wanted to win every game for the rest of the season. Well that was some start to back that statement Hendo. Not exactly to plan... And locking the team in the dressing room after some games is not exactly working wonders either.

We have to be beating shit teams or we will become a shit team. We could quickly become the next Longford Town or Finn Harps, former Premier Division big boys now sitting in the lower half of the First Division, without a chance of promotion for a long, long time.

Something needs to be done, fast.

Thats a load of bollox to say that. I was due to attend the game but pulled out due to a bad summer cold i have. But FFS when I heard the result from Matt on the radio I nearly flipped. I was expecting to hear another 2-0 to keep our promotion play off alive but this is getting unacceptable.
We can't beat Athlone who are near the bottom of the division then what chance do we have of getting out of this division?
Everybody is entitled to their opinion and yes I agree now that Hendo needs to get his ass in gear or else goodbye. He is the manager, he organises the team and tactics and he is responsible if things goes pear shaped which they now look like they well and truly have!!!
To give away a sloppy goal like that is rediculous, what the hell are they doing in training??? At this stage of the season if we had any aspirations of getting out of the division we should be either on top with a points surplus or lying in 2nd with a point or 2 at the most behind with only a game between us. We should not be looking over our shoulders at the likes of Monaghan or Limerick coming up behind us.
Something has gone drastically wrong in the club/team since George O'Callaghan came and went,I am trying to put my finger on it but Hendo better sort it out or he will lose the confidance of the team and most importantly the supporters!!

I remember this time last year rationalising the manner in which the Blues' league season fell apart on the basis that they were fighting on three fronts. They can't use that excuse this year. In fact, Monaghan are attempting the same thing this year and they seem to be doing okay. Depressing

What a terrible result. Something drastic has to be done to sort this out. It's about time Hendo just dropped Liam Kearney from the team & Muddy from the squad. Grinny should be definitely in our squad. He would make a huge difference to our team even if he played him on the right. I think that John Hayes should start instead of Long & I agree with what was said about Caros consistency. PC was brilliant when he played so maybe he should be brought in too. If we didnt have WJK atm we would be in serious trouble. He is really coming into form.

Horrendous result was listenig on WLR and by the sounds of it more and more looking like a mid table team. We are conceading terrible goals and its not surprising sure Slong wants to be a rugby player constant fouls and kicking into touch. JK should go back there. Careo just isnt up 2 it so many hopeless ball up the line and gets skint too easily. Some of the older squad players need to step aside,no hunger,Grinnys deserves at least 20mins every week always a threat and timmy needs a longer run in d team sounded like he did well last night. Barrett and JK out Macca and Jimmy in and go for it every week with lads who want to play football. Not beating Athlone, bad news, hendo must be thinking about walking.

Shocking result last night. If we cant beat teams like Athlone we have no business being in the Premier. Wasnt at the game as I was at Epsom so won't comment on the performance but can comment on a few things overall. Firstly RE Hendo: I don't think our manager resigning at this stage of the season is the answer. I would begin to question his commitment to the promotion bid if the rumours of him trying to resign in the last few weeks. I hope he stays with the cause and gets our season back on track.
Grinny has been completely frozen out over the last few weeks, has he fallen out with the manager or what? Timmy Purcell was'nt considered good enough to make the bench te last few weeks and then when Vinny is suspended he goes straight into the team, why the huge turnaround? (BTW I rate Timmy and think he should be pushing for the team, just questioning this suden turnaround).

There seems to be major problems in the team at the moment and both the players and the gaffer have to sort it out asap before our bid to make the play offs falls apart!

Hendo has to get the bullet!!! In fairness we are goin ta struggle ta get this play off spot n him goin will not hamper us as much as it will if he stays. There are players not doin it nevermind their experience n how good they used to be before for the club and other clubs but they shud be dropped. No manager shud get away with consistently playing their favourites in any sport and it shouldnt be put up with in this club!!! Im struggling to understand his managerial skill and i have started to wonder has he got any. From reports trainings a joke and there is no disicipline from the coaching staff. His selections all season long have bein terrible and we have not had a consistent right winger he chops and changes repeatedly which is unfair to the 2 r3 that have bein tried! Also our right wingers seem to be under instruction to stick to the wing and have no liecience ta come inside or they get a bolloxing and are wipped off if they do so and to make it worse carey plays ridicolous balls to them and will never over lap, he has to be replaced and fast, he has had a terrible season. P.C has been alot better and more attacking option.

A draw against Athlone no matter where it is is shocking and remember we could only draw at home with these also. 4 points dropped im sick typing it, we have a squad that is good enuf ta push derry if not beat them bt with the way managment has acted we will be lucky ta get third wiv a headstart of 6 wins in a row!!! Our center back pairing is not good and long should be dropped, simple as no matter how much of a favourite he seems to be, this man played center mid one game to be accomadated this season, he hasnt got feet surely im not the only one to notice this!!

Kearney has to up his game also he simply hasnt been up to it this year, admittedly he was and still is a good player but no player is good enough not to be dropped and maybe it will do him the world of good, Timmy, Jimmy, Cambridge (when at the club)and any others that got a game or two there if they had one bad game got dropped for a game or two,Kearney has been consistently shit al season and has played every game he has been available for!!

Up front its taken Hendo 3/4 the season to see that wjk will score goals and offers an option, he would be top scorer if he had as much time as Vinny!! He has already at least scored againest the better quality teams!!! Murphy is only new and the probs were there b4 he came and he seems to have a bit about him, Also Grinny hasnt gotten a chance all season and the way things are he wont be in the squad for the rest the season, i remember one match when he came on against Limerick were we as we have in so many games not bein able to break down the other team and when he came on and offered sumthing different and won a penalty and nearly scored himself, we need this option on the bench at least, aldoh im sure his confidence and fitness levels are at a low at the mo. Timmy as far as im aware is a striker and always has been, not once tried there!!! And we not able score al year jesus, I could see him and either wjk r murphy working!!

As a result Hendo goin nw would in my opinion would infact help our bid to reach the playoff and remember reach them in good form as they will be hard to get through, because if he stays were garenteed not to play good football and we are not garenteed 2 r 3rd spot which is criminal after the start we got.

We have Shels next week we have to win and we should not put up wiv anting less than a good footballing performance and 3 POINTS!!! It getting serious now, and anybody who is not up to it should get the bullet players and staff inclusive!!!

Steady on here chaps. I was at the match last night and Paul Murphy was very unlucky not to have scored three goals in the first half. The Athlone goalkeeper Michael Shilingermann produced two brilliant saves from Murphy and another brilliant stop from John Kearney. OK we did take our foot of the pedal when we scored but their goal should have been disallowed because Kevin Burns was pushed by one of the Athlone players before he could get out to reach the ball. The Blues have lost only one of their last seven games, and with Derry, Limerick and Monaghan all playing each other during the coming weeks, we are still in with a shout. We do not want to go down the road of sacking a manager once again. Surely we have learnt our lesson on that front. Lets stick together, both on and off the field. Henderson does make a mistake or two from time to time, but it is the players who must do the business. I do agree however that Grinny should be brought back into the squad.

People need to calm down a bit here, anyone who was there last night would know we should have won, but their keeper pulled off some brilliant saves from JK and Murphy. We played well and attacked up until we scored, then sat back a bit til we conceded. We couldnt put away the chances, not hendo's fault. We didnt play half bad altogether in fairness, at least we have a midfielder who isnt afraid to get stuck in in barrett.

Dont think either kearney had particularly good games, especially Liam who needs a kick up the hole at this stage. Coady seems to be the find of the season, top class player. WJK played alright, tho hendo was gona kill him at one stage when he had the blood injury. Murphy's control on a ball is unreal and his volley from about 35 yards that whizzed over the bar was class and would have been goal of the season. The Grincell thing is a bit puzzling alright and he shud be brought back in. timmy did well enough in fairness to him. Long and Murray won tonnes of headers but struggled with the movement of the athlone forwards. Bringing on sully to play him behind wjk was puzzling too

And the ref adding 4 minutes at the end is a total and utter joke. Kepper down for at least 4 mins, defender down for at least another 3/4, and then 6 subs made and he gets 4 minutes from that

Fair play to all who made the trip up too!

Heard the kavanagh signing last night too. not impressed.

My patience with Henderson at this stage is starting to wear very thin. I'm getting fed up of this fuck acting and lacklustre shit on the pitch and now he's gone off to sign a scumbag.

Jesus wept.

Some of the posts here are completely over the top. Hendo has worked wonders here. Somehow over-achieved last year with no squad depth. This year we had a fantastic squad but it's beginning to fall apart and we badly need to get it together again. People can point to Georgie and they may have a point. His laziness and arrogance seems to have effected the team and we've yet to recover. But people can't just get 'fed up with' it. Fact of the matter is that all the players are putting in the work and no ones attitude can be questioned. It's just not happening. That's football, ya win some, ya lose some. We have to keep going and hopefully stop the rot soon enough. The only complaint I have is that the concentration isn't there at times and small mistakes, poor finishing and bad luck are the main reasons we're struggling the way we are. We go a goal ahead and we sit back and allow the other team back into it and we just make it hard for ourselves e.g. Athlone last night and Longford last week. We go a goal down and we're rattled and take time to recover and get back into it e.g. Monaghan at home.
